Electromin and Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services inaugurate Autonomous shuttle operation in KSA at ROSHN Riyadh Business Front
In another feat of electrifying Saudi Arabia, Electromin, an e-mobility turn-key solutions company and subsidiary of Petromin Corporation (“Petromin”), is enabling the Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services (MOTLS) to pilot an Autonomous shuttle operation at the Riyadh Business Front, owned by ROSHN, leading Real Estate Developer in the country.
The fully Autonomous shuttle produced by Navya and powered by Electromin will be piloted for four weeks with accessibility to all visitors at the Riyadh business front making it the first mass autonomous mobility operations in the Kingdom.
The trial will cover a specified, gated route and showcase the potential for autonomous transportation in urban areas. The commissioning, mapping and operator training of the shuttle was successfully held over two weeks by our partners Navya – with three operators from Electromin certified on March 6th, 2023.
Kalyana Sivagnanam, GCEO Petromin, expressed excitement about this initiative saying, “Electromin is thrilled to support MOTLS in realizing their landmark milestone and contributing to KSA’s vision of sustainable public transportation. The Government of Saudi Arabia has been exemplary in leading the charge for change, making this a momentous occasion that we are honored to be part of”.
Commending the partnership, Mark Notkin, CIO Petromin, said, “Through Electromin, our partners now have access to a large portfolio of smart mobility solutions. We are committed to enable the widespread availability of autonomous transportation within the Kingdom, as part of our mission to support Saudi Vision 2030.”
Saudi Arabia aims to have 15 per cent of its public transport vehicles as autonomous by 2030, as the kingdom seeks to be a leader in the future generation of transport. This commercial partnership between Electromin and the Ministry of Transport and Logistics services marks the success of the actualization of KSA’s accelerated growth towards a digital revolution.
